Alexander Kaune is a hydrologist (PhD) with over 15 years of experience in international projects for the efficient and sustainable management of water. This includes water modelling and monitoring, and the assessment of climate variability on water productivity, water availability, water demand, and water quality done in various countries such as Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Chile, Netherlands, Georgia, Angola, and Mozambique.
Marcel Kaune is a mathematician, specialized in numerical programming and artificial intelligence applications. Work experience includes research projects focused on prediction models, as well as in roles involving data management and analysis in Costa Rica and Germany. Highly skilled in managing and integrating large datasets and implementing prediction, analysis, and visualization tools for decision-making.
Annelies works as a project manager and remote sensing specialist at Water Insight since 2012. She has a background in environmental sciences and remote sensing of coastal zones. She is often involved in the analysis of water quality, project management or co-ordination, co-design and user contacts, communication and reporting.
Marnix is one of the two directors and owners of Water Insight. Since the founding of Water Insight, Marnix has been working as Managing director, organising all contracts, sales, marketing, finances and HRM related tasks. Many of WI’s projects are organised with an international consortium, and sales are to international clients. With a Ph.D. Earth sciences, Marnix has a scientific background.
Lazaros is software developer with expertise in geo-information and remote sensing, including:
• Image processing automation
• Design of processing workflows
• Maintenance and monitoring of processing chains
• Quality control of products
Lazaros works as IT engineer. He has designed the commercial data processing chain for the water quality services at WI.
Andrea Suárez Serrano, PhD, is a tropical biologist specialized in natural resource management with 21 years of experience. She currently serves as the General Coordinator of the Centro de Recursos Hídricos para Centroamérica y el Caribe, Universidad Nacional (HIDROCEC-UNA). She specializes in water resource management, water pollution, and aquatic ecotoxicology. Andrea has extensive experience in obtaining national and international funding for water-related project development. Additionally, she has publications both nationally and internationally within her field.
Anny Guillén Watson, MSc, works as a teacher-researcher in the HIDROCEC-UNA program, affiliated with the Universidad Nacional since 2016. She has experience in research and extension projects, either as a lead or as a participant. Her specialization lies in the collection, processing, and microbiological analysis for characterizing or determining the microbiological quality of various water matrices.
Marianela Quirós is a marine biologist with 14 years of experience in coastal marine resource management. She has led training initiatives for coastal communities through bilateral agreements with international institutions and has also presented management proposals for CITES-listed threatened marine species. Currently, she has specialized in the study of phytoplankton species that produce harmful red tides.
